Elyse Hopfner-Hibbs has been a rising star in Canada since winning the national novice title in 2001. Last year she moved up to the senior team with spectacular results, qualifying for finals in all her events at World Cup meets in New York and Sao Paulo, Brazil. She won the all around at the Gymnix in Montreal and placed first on the balance beam at the Canadian championships.

Competing in October at the Massilia Cup in Marseilles, France, Elyse notched her first international victory with a gold medal on beam. A month later, Elyse was the lone Canadian woman to qualify for the 2005 world championships in Melbourne, Australia where she posted an impressive 10th on uneven bars.

Elyse is the latest in a long line of national team members produced at Sport Seneca in Toronto, where she is coached by Carol-Angela Orchard, Brian McVey and Lawson Hammer who see her following in the steps of previous Olympians such as Monica Covacci and Michelle Conway.

A strong all around competitor, Elyse is known for her personality and powerful tumbling passes on floor, and a difficult beam routine including an eye catching aerial cartwheel not done by any other competitor in the world.

Too young for the 2004 Olympics by just 10 months, Elyse is focusing her efforts on making her mark at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing
